THE JACKIE ROBINSON FOUNDATION’S SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Through its Education and Leadership Development Program, the Jackie Robinson Foundation provides scholarships of up to $7,500 annually to minority high school students showing leadership potential and demonstrating financial need to attend an accredited 4-year college or university of their choice.
You must be a U.S. citizen in order to qualify for the Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship Award. In addition, you cannot possess a 2 or 4 year degree when apply for this scholarship.
The application package must include ONE (1) letter of recommendation and an official transcript (with raised seal).

addition, all applicants are required to take either the SAT
or the ACT

The American Legion Annual High School Oratorical Scholarship Program- “A Constitutional Speech Contest”: 9th -12th graders. Each contestant will present a prepared oratorical on some phase of the United States Constitution which will give emphasis to the duties and obligations of a citizen to our government. Each contestant will start the competition at the local post level. Scholarships will range in value from $100-18,000. Details are available at www.scarolinalegion.org under Legion programs.
Carolina Trust Federal Credit Union, Horry Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (HTC) and 104.9 BOB FM Scholarships: Seniors only. Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors seeking a four year degree from either Coastal Carolina University or Francis Marion University. Students must reside in Horry, Georgetown, Marion, Williamsburg or the southern part of Florence County. Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA. James F. Byrnes Scholarship Program. The James F. Byrnes Scholarship Program was established in 1949 to assist South Carolinians who had lost one or both parents to obtain a college education. In order to be eligible, a student must:
Have one or both parents deceased
Be a South Carolina resident and US citizen
Plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four year school
Have a satisfactory academic record
Demonstrate excellence in character, ability and enterprise
Have need for financial assistance
Have completed no more than 1 year of work in college.

Nina Neely Scholarship Essay and Awards Contest. The essay contest requires you write a 2 page paper on the topic: “How do you think having a minority President affects the future?” For more information and an application, come by the guidance office. All essays must be completed and postmarked on or before March 8, 2010.
The South Carolina Education Association-Retired (SCEAR) is offering the JP Coates/SCACT scholarship in the amount of $1000 renewable each year. The scholarship is awarded annually and is designed to encourage promising young people to prepare for careers in education at an accredited 4 year college or university in South Carolina. Further information and the application is available in guidance. Deadline is May 15, 2009.
South Carolina Career and Technology Education Administration Division of SCACTE will be offering scholarships in the amount of $1000. To be eligible the student must be a South Carolina high school senior and an occupational completer having earned four or more occupation Carnegie units of credit. 2010 WIRE (Women Involved in Rural Electrification) Scholarship: A dependent (child) of a member-owner of Pee Dee Electric. Pee Dee Electric Cooperative awards two (2) $1000 scholarships to be used at an accredited university, junior college or technical college of the recipient’s choice. The applicant must be the dependent of a member-owner of Pee Dee Electric Cooperative. Applications may be found at www.PeeDeeElectric.com. Deadline for applications is Wednesday, April 7, 2010.
The Goat Island Boat Club is sponsoring a $2000 merit based scholarship for the winner of the essay contest. Deadline is April 3, 2010 and applications are available in guidance.
SC Student Loan applications for the SC Teacher Loan is on file in Guidance. The SC Teacher Loan Program was established by the State of South Carolina to encourage talented and qualified students to enter the teaching profession and teach in the state in areas of critical needs. Dixie Softball Scholarship: High school seniors who have participated for at least two years in a Dixie Softball Summer Program. AES Engineering: $500 scholarship to high school seniors. AES Engineering believes that achieving a high grade point average should not be the only criteria for determining who deserves to be helped. For that reason they are offering a scholarship that will be awarded on the basis of character as determined by evaluating the essays that are submitted. Students must submit an essay of no more than 1000 words in answer to one of the two questions below:
1. If you had the authority to change your school in a positive way, what specific changes would you make?
2. How has your family background affected the way you see the world?

South Carolina State Fair Scholarship: Seniors. The SC State Fair will be offering $2000 scholarships to fifty (50) selected seniors to be applied toward post high school education or training in a SC university, college or technical college. Santee Electric Cooperative will award eight $500 scholarships to high school seniors at the annual meeting on March 30, 2010. Two awards each will be randomly drawn from each of the following counties: Williamsburg, Clarendon, Georgetown and Florence. Applications are due by 4:30 PM on March 12, 2010. An applicant must be a SEC member or a child of a SEC member and have at least a “C” average. Applications are available in guidance.
The Manning chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America will be awarding the Robbie Hodge scholarship for the second year. The scholarship is worth $1000 and will be given to a senior from Clarendon County. Applicants must demonstrate ambition and self-drive as evidenced by outstanding achievement in an activity in school, the community or the workplace. Come into guidance for more information. The Dick Anderson Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy provides academic scholarships to worthy college students from Sumter and the surrounding counties. Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance and extracurricular activities and are not based on financial need. Deadline is April 1, 2010 and applications are available in guidance.
